Who Can I Run To

This has been an emotional month for me. I started to reflect on how I handle pressure. In the past I tend to fold under pressure. I hold all my emotions in or try to save others who are in pain………but that burden isn’t for me to carry. I’m writing tonight to encourage others and share some practical things I do when dealing with a hardship.

  1. Prayer

Sounds cliche I know however as I stated before God had to remind me that the load I try to take on isn’t for me to hold on to. Prayer is our reminder that God has the capacity to carry that weight alone without our help. Remember the passage in Matthew 11: 28-30

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

This passage is one I refer to constantly because I take so much comfort in knowing that God loves me so much that he not only died for my sins but also being obedient in spirit decreasing who we are and allow the holy spirit to move inside of us.

  1. The power of worship

I have literally worshiped God through some of my toughest times. I am not going to lie to you and say this easy. The Devil is so trickery that he will have you telling your own self lies, that you don’t want to get up and sing, that you want to stay in bed, or you want to be angry.  One of the first thing the enemy does when we are facing difficulties are going through our trials is to play with your mind as our mind is where the battle is either won or lost. You have to pray for your strength and push through those lies. As you begin to worship God the atmosphere literally begins to shift. Remember the bible tells us he inhabits the praises of his people.

Remember with Paul and Silas (Acts 16:25-26). The Bible tell us that at midnight instead of becoming depress, worrying about their problems or allowing their situation to get them down they start to sing praises unto God and suddenly “there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.”

This passage is powerful because it shows us that Chains start to break off and not only theirs but all those around them. That’s the power of your worship. When you get out of your own and forget about what you are going through chains or yokes will start to fall off! We receive breakthrough by praising and worshiping God!

Last but not least God’s word. I understand that when I am going through anything……it is a spiritual attack! I can’t fight in the natural, so the only way to come up against the lies that Devil tries to feed us is by knowing God’s word. This is an area that I am growing in and thankfully because of this blog I am staying in my word more often. Understanding God’s word brings fourth that wisdom, in his word is where we discover his power, he is sovereign, and in his word, is where we truly can rely solely on him!

My prayer:

heavenly father my prayer this evening, is that the people who are reading this, that may be fighting against depression, anxiety, loss of a loved one, illness , incarnation or anything else weighing down on them, releases it over to you lord. That they understand if they leave it with you, you can make that weight light, that you can fill them up with a joy that is indescribable and despite the outside circumstance, they are still standing and will get their breakthrough if they would just lean into you! Amen

sincerely, A Sista on the Sofa
